LEVER SYSTEM (SOC 20) Flashcards
What is a lever?
In your body, a lever refers to a system of muscles, and bones to create a movement. When you exercise, your muscles pull on your bones, acting as levers.
What are the 4 components of a lever?
- ) falcrum - (pivot joint)
- ) load - (picking up an object)
- ) effort - (lifting up from bicep)
- ) lever arm - (bone)
What are the three classes of a lever?
First class - falcrum is in the middle (when heading in football)
Second class - load is in the middle
Third class - effort is in the middle
Which one of the 4 components of a lever system is in the middle for the second class?
The middle of the lever arm (bone) is the load. The direction of the movement is in the toes when you push up by using the help from your gastrocnemius to push your body weight which acts as your load at this point.
Which one of the 4 components of a lever system is in the middle for the third class?
In a third class lever, the effort is applied between the falcrum and the load.
