Planes And Axes Flashcards
The sagittal planes
The sagittal plane divides the body from top to bottom, (vertically), resulting in a left side and a right side
The frontal plane
Divides the body from top bottom (vertically), but front and back sections.
The transverse plane
Divides the body across the middle (horizontally), giving a top section (also known as ‘superior’) and a bottom section (inferior)
Frontal axis
Imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from left to right, allows flexion and extension
Sagittal axis
Imaginary line passing through the body from front to back, allows adduction and abduction
Vertical axis
Imaginary line passing vertically through the body, allows rotation of the body in an upright position
What planes of movement is used when performing a front flip
Sagittal plane around a frontal axis
What planes are used when performing a cartwheel
It is done on the frontal plane around the sagittal axis
