PHYSICS - Momentum and equations of motion Flashcards
Pfhlægië
What is the equation for momentum and what is the unit?
Momentum = mass (kg) x Velocity (m/s)
The unit is kgm/s (who coulda guessed)
What Newton’s second law but with momentum, I forgot
Force = change in momentum / time
F = Δp/t (yeah idk why it’s p either)
What is the conservation of momentum?
Momentum is always conserved during a collision as long as there’s no other forces acting.
Some moment may be transferred but the total remains the same.
Suppose two identical cars collided.
Car 1 exerts 16000N of force on Car 2, how much force does Car 2 exert on Car 1?
16000N aswell
Is velocity a vector or scalar?
Vector
whats the formular for kinetic energy? (you probably don’t need to remember this)
KE = ½MV^2
What is the initial velocity of an object at rest?
0m/s
What is the final velocity of an object coming to rest?
0m/s
What is the acceleration of an object falling through the air (how could newton do this 😔)
10 m/s^2
What the formula for moment (torque)? (with units)
Moment (Nm) = Force (N) x perpendicular distance from pivot (m)
Suppose you want to increase the moment (torque) of a hammer lifting a nail. How?
- Increase force
- Increase distance from pivot
What does equilibrium mean?
Balanced
What’s the principal of moments?
When in rotational equilibrium (stuff ain’t moving), the sum of clockwise moments must equal the sum of the anticlockwise moments.
Name each and every equation of motion
you’re given them in the exam, bozo
just know how/when to use them
