Is Separation by Reason of Failure of PFA still a permissible reason to separate a service member?
No
If a Sailor makes E5 on the exam but then fails a PFA, discuss the stipulations.
Sailor does not advance to E5 until they pass a command-directed monthly FEP mock PFA.
They must remain enrolled in the command FEP until the next official PFA.
What are UTPs?
Universal Training Precautions–conducted to reduce the risk of exercise-related collapse and death
What are the signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?
generally abrupt/immediate loss of consciousness
How does one treat SCA?
Check for absence of pulse, CPR, AED, EMS
What are the signs of Exertional Collapse Associated with SCT (ECAST)?
gradual slowing down, loss of smooth coordination, awkward running gait, complaint of weakness or cramping
What are the signs of Exertional Heat Stroke?
Similar to ECAST, but with elevated temperature and altered mental state
Who can ask for a Bad Day chit?
Someone who does not complete any portion of the PRT, fails, or demonstrates early signs of exercise distress
When must the Bad Day chit PRT be conducted?
within 7 days from medical clearance and within 45 days of the BCA
What happens if the sailor does not complete the Bad Day PRT?
must be screened by medical again. If no waiver granted (medically cleared), they will fail the PRT
Which PRT score is entered in PRIMS if a Bad Day PRT is taken?
Only the final PRT score
How long should sailors be afforded to acclimatize to warmer weather or higher altitude?
2 to 4 weeks
What is the gold standard for measuring environmental heat stress?
Wet Bulb Globe Temp (WBGT)
