It conveys a simple idea sensibly arranged in a sentence. `
Can a phrase stand alone?
No, a phrase can not stand alone, but is always part of a sentence.
What is another word that a phrase can be refered to as.
A fragment of a sentence.
What is an adjectival phrase?
These (qualify) tell us about the noun.
E.g. The model with the dazzling smile came from Durban.
What is a noun phrase?
These answer the question who or what in connection with the noun.
E.g. Everyone in the courtroom stood when the judge entered. (who?)
What is an adverbial phrase?
These modify the verb and answer the questions as indicated.
What is an adverbial phrase of manner?
This tells us how something is done.
E.g. The girl entered the room happily and confidently. (how did she enter the room)
What is an adverbial phrase of time?
This tells is when something is done.
E.g. The girl entered the room at 9 o’clock.

What is an adverbial phrase of place.
This tells us where something happened.
E.g. The girl in the room was reading a book.

This tells us why something has happened.
E.g. The girl, wanting to read, entered the room.

This adds information.
E.g. The girl, although tired, read her book.
