A

Are names given to ordinary objects

  • identified by the, a, or an preceding them
  • follow possesive adjectives ( mine, his, hers)
  • sets of common nouns ( fruits)
  • phrases can contain 2 nouns ( the hair of the girl)
  • some common nouns partner each other( fish & chips)
  • reflect what people are ( doctors, nurses)
  • has gender ( masculine, feminine, neuter)
  • two nouns together = compound nouns (hand+bag= handbag)
