What is an adjective?
- they are used to describe nouns and pronouns. They add interest to a sentence
where can adjectives be found in a sentence?
- they can come before a noun
( The _ boy won the prize) - they can follow a linking verb

Can we form adjectives from nouns?
Yes…
E.g. The boy is an athlete = he is an athletic boy
Paris has an interesting history =it is an historical place
What are descriptive adjectives or adjectives of quality?
- most commonly used adjectives
- what kind?
-the loyal, intelligent, creative, motivated
what are proper adjectives?
- these are proper nouns used as adjectives
- The Cape Town beaches are scattered with shells
What are adjectives of quantity/ number?
- how many
- two/many/several/few/some/most children
- each/every/neither child
what are adjectives of order?
- position
- he came first/second/last in the race
What are demonstrative adjectives?
- which one
- this/that book
- these/those books
what are possessive adjectives
- belonging to
- my/his/her/our/their/your/its
what are interrogative adjectives.
- which one/asks a questions
- which/what/whose
What are compound adjectives?
-these are adjectives that are joined by hyphens
E.g. a well-deserved result

- able : comfortable
- ant : constant
- ary : ordinary
- en : proven
- ent : permanent
- ful : hopeful
- ible : convertible
- ish : feverish
- ive : possessive
