Photosynthesis - Light Independent Reaction Flashcards
What is light independent reaction
-Does not use light energy, but product from light dependent reaction
-Occur in stroma
-Produce hexose sugar that can be converted (glucose, protein)
Calvin cycle - stages 1-2
1)Carbon fixation of Ribulose diphosphate (RuBP)
-RuBP (5C compound) bind with CO2 by enzyme rubisco (ribulose biphosphate carboxylase)
-create 6C compound (unstable) -> 2x glycerate 3 phosphate (3c compound)
2)Reduction of glycerate 3 phosphate
-Phosphorylation by ATP -> ADP + Pi
-reduced by by NADPH via hydrogenase
Into 2 triose phosphate
Calvin cycle - stage 3
Regeneration of RuBP
-Triose phosphate phosphorylation by ATP
Become RuBP (every 5 of 6 triose phosphate made become this)
-1 of 6 triose phosphate become hexose sugar

Calvin cycle product
-RuBP (5of 6 triose phosphate)
-hexose sugar, can be converted to other biological molecules (1 of 6 triose phosphate)
-NADP for light dependent reaction
Since every 5 triose phosphate (3C) allows for 3 RuBP (5C)
