Ecology - Introduction Flashcards
Key terms
Ecosystem - Interactions between living organism + non living abiotic (light, water)
Community - all members of all species
Habitats - Environment where organism thrive
Population - total number of organism in the same species
Environment - The abiotic factors of a place
Niche - specific role an being or factor have (decomposers return nutrient to environment)
Measuring population growth with S shape graph
Similar to life cycle of colonies
-Lag, Log, stationary, death phases
S - shape graph

J shape graph explanation
Contain lag+log phase + stationary fluctuations
Carrying capacity - when habitat reach max carrying capacity for organism, does environment resistance
Environment resistance - not enough food, space available so organism dies, when population lower than carrying capacity this stop
Population can rise above carrying capacity due to still excess resources for a short time

Density dependent + density independent resistance
2 types of environment resistance
Dependent - impact caused by population size (low food, migration, disease)
Independent- impact happens regardless of population (weather, pollution)
Competitions
Interspecific - between different species
Infraspecific - between same species (density dependant)
