What type of equipment is required for personnel working on the flight line?
Safety equipment
What safety equipment is issued to personnel working on the flight line?
Flight deck safety boots, Cranial impact helmet, Protective eye goggles, leather gloves
What is the runway?
Paved areas that are used for aircraft take off and Landing, runways vary in length determined by aircraft sizes
What is an MA-1 series overrun barrier?
Designed to stop tricycle landing gear equipped aircraft, not equipped with tail hooks. MA-1A is always in a standby status in case there is an aborted takeoff or emergency overrun landing
What is a compass calibration pad?
Paved area in a magnetically quiet area where aircraft compass is calibrated
What is the runway numbering system?
Runways are normally numbered in relation to their magnetic heading rounded off to the nearest 10 degrees
What is an airfield rotating beacon?
Airport is below VFR weather conditions, day / night, rotating beacon is used to identify airports location
Military airfields use two white lights in one green flashing 12 to 15 times per minute
What are some life-threatening hazards present during flight operations?
Jet intakes/exhaust
Rotor/ propeller arcs
What is used to quickly recognize personnel on the flight deck?
Color coded Jersey classification system
Who wears the yellow Jersey?
Handlers, Flight Deck officer, catapult officer, Air Bos’n, arresting gear officer, plane directors.
Who wears a white jersey?
Safety department (with Green Cross), Air transport officer, LSO, squadron plain inspector, medical (with red cross)
Who wears the brown Jersey?
Plane captains
Who wears a blue jersey?
Chocks and chains, tractors, elevator operators
Who wears a green jersey?
Catapult/arresting gear personnel, photographers, maintenance personnel, helicopter landing signalman - enlisted
Who wears a red jersey?
Crash/salvage, EOD, AOs’
Who wears a purple jersey?
Fuels
How is PKP identified with a coaming?
12” wide red stripe with a 3” high “PKP” stenciled in center of stripe
How is a salt water station identified with a coaming?
18” wide red stripe with a yellow 3” high “W” stenciled in center of stripe
How is a CO2 bottle stowage identified with a coaming?
12” inch wide red stripe with a white 3” high “CO2” stenciled in center of stripe
How is an AFFF station identified with a coaming?
18” wide green stripe with a 3” high “AFFF” stenciled in center of stripe
How is PKP identified without a coaming?
White 18” diameter circle with a red 5” high PKP painted
How is a salt water station identified without a coaming?
Red triangle 18” per side with a yellow “W” painted
How is CO2 bottle stowage identified without a coaming?
White 18” diameter circle with a red 5” high CO2 painted
How is an AFFF identified without a coaming?
Green 18” square with white 3” high “AFFF” painted

Ramps designated to eliminate loose ordnance

Yellow stripe painted up and over deck edge at both ends of ramp
The flight deck in front of ramp opening is marked with alternating 4” wide red/yellow stripes with a 12” black facsimile of a bomb centered
How is Steam Smothering Identified?
18” black stripe with a 3” white “STEAM” stenciled in center of stripe on wheel stop coaming
