pharm calc. exam 1 Flashcards
Medication Adherence/Compliance
an RPh may calculate a patient’s complicance rate as follows:
case in point
an RPh received the following rx which requiires the correct interpretation of abbreviations prior to engaging in calculations, compounding, labling an dispensing
a. how many mg each of lisinopril and hydrchlorothiazide are required to fill the Rx:
i. Lisinopril: 10 mg/cap x 30 cap = 300 mg
ii. Hydrochlorothiazide: 10 mg/cap x 30 cap = 300 mg
b. What is the weight of lactose required?
i. Amount of lactose per cap: 300 mg – (10 + 10 + 40) mg = 240 mg
ii. Total lactose: 240 mg/cap x 30 cap = 7,200 mg (7.2 g)
Density (g/mL)
mass per unit volume of a substance
Unit(s):
Gram per cubic centimeter (g/cc), or Gram per milliliter (g/mL)
mathematically: mass/volume
Density Calculation
Solved Problem: What is the density of 1.5 g of 1.2 mL
hydrochloric acid?
MASS/VOLUME
1.5g/1.2 mL = 1.25g/mL
Specific Gravity
Definition: Ratio of weight of a volume of a substance to the weight of an equal volume of a reference standard (usually water, at the same temperature)
Alternatively, sp. gr. = Density of Substance A (g/mL) / Density of H20 (g/mL)
Mathematically: (Specific gravity of A =
Weght of A/Volume of A)
