• your topic must be debatable
• take a side and clearly state your position
• your thesis statement will be stronger if you can back it up by other sources outside of your own opinion
• make sure your thesis statement is a “statement” - not a question
• place your thesis statement in the introduction paragraph of your persuasive essay
• typically a thesis statement is placed in the later part of the introduction paragraph.this is the matter of style, but the closer it is tot he body paragraphs, the better the transition into the body paragraphs that are supporting the thesis
