tips on conducting an interview
A
- prepare in advance
- make appropriate arrangements - convenient time and location
- write questions in advance
- be prepared to take careful notes
- listen carefully. don’t anticipate answers or break in when your subject is speaking
- maintain eye contact. let your interviewee know you are interested – by eye contact, body language, and acknowledging what is being said with words or nods
- ask follow-up questions
- don’t interrupt with additional questions; make a note of additional questions you wish to ask, and ask when your subject finishes
- get some good quotes or sotires
- be courteous
- be sure and thank your subject at the end of the interview
