Cluster A: paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal (odd/eccentric)
Cluster B: antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcissistic (dramatic, emotional, erratic)
Cluster C: avoidant, dependent, obsessive compulsive (anxious and fearful)
paranoid personality disorder
a pattern of distrust and suspiciousness such that others motives are interpreted as malevolent
schizoid personality disorder
a pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression
schizotypal personality disorder
a pattern of acute discomfort in close relationships, cognitive or perceptual distortions, and eccentricities of behavior
antisocial personality disorder
pattern of disregard for and violation of rights of others
borderline personality disorder
pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self image, affects, and marked impulsivity
often presents with depressive or bipolar symptoms, can have transient stress related (abandonment) paranoid ideation or depersonalization
histrionic personality disorder
pattern of excessive emotionality (lively and dramatic) and attention seeking, charming, open, flirtatious
feel uncomfortable and unappreciated if not center of attention
narcissistic personality disorder
pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy, only associates with people of high status
avoidant personality disorder
pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, hypersensitivity to negative evaluation, reluctant to take risks or do challenging activities
dependent personality disorder
pattern of submissive and clinging behavior related to an excessive need to be taken care of
obsessive compulsive personality disorder
pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control/rigidity
suicide risk in borderline PD
greatest in early adulthood and decreases with age
stability of relationships with borderline PD
greater stability as they age
