A
- the emotional response that influences behaviour and our typical actions towards an object
- can be positive or negative
- is a learned response

the triadic model components
A
- cognitive component, affective component, behavioural component (CAB)

cognitive component
A
- the belief and knowledge a person has about the attitude object
- e.g running improves CV fitness

A
- emotional feelings, whether the object gives a good or bad feeling
- e.g i hate or enjoy running

A
- response or behaviour to an object
- if cognitive and affective component are positive, the attitude to the object will be
- e.g running has health benefits and is enjoyable so i run

factors affecting attitude formation
A
- media, peers, education, religion, culture (e.g gender role perception) , role models, norms in a social group

persuasive communication components
A
- the persuader, the recipient, the message, the situations

A
- person persuading need to be of high status
- e.g coach

A
- attitude easily changed if the recipient really wants to change

A
- needs to be presented in a way that makes the player want to change
- e.g the player needs to understand why change is needed

A
- attitudes are easily changed if other persuaders are present
- e.g team members to provide encouragement

cognitive dissonance
A
- CAB conflict
- changing one component of the triadic model can change the whole attitude
- cause psych conflict so motivation is needed to recreate harmony < this is the drive for consonance
