Norming
- need for common goals recognised
- members begin to work together
- roles are accepted
- respect for leader shared
Performing
- more strategies with a Clear Vision and aim
- team is trusted to do the job in hand
- don’t need as much assistance from leader
- focus on achieving goals

Ringleman effect
Breakdown in teamwork when effectiveness of the team to operate as a group cannot be sustained coordination losses
Causes of ringleman effect
Lack of timing, large group numbers, lack of understanding tactics
Strategies to reduce ringlement effect
allocate clear roles, prioritize communication of tactics repetition/practice of set plays
Social loafing
withdrawal of effort due to reduce motivation
Causes of social loafing
lack of accountability, lack of self-confidence, perception that others aren’t trying, individual efforts not valued, off the pitch problems, poorly defined roles
Strategies to reduce social loafing
Give credit for personal success, attribute success to effort, encourage social support, team building exercises, punish social loafing, clarify roles and responsibilities
