What is a type?
A type is a category of people with similar characteristics
We can split people into various groups and people will belong in a group or the other
What are the 4 types of personality (humours) according to Hippocrates?
Phlegmatic - apathetic, unemotional
Melancholic - sad, depressed
Sanguine - optimistic, hopeful
Choleric - irascible, temperamental
What is a trait?
We view people’s characteristics as different dimensions or traits.
A trait is a personality characteristic that makes one person different from the other.
Describe’s an individual’s personality.
A person is given a numeric score to indicate how much of a particular trait this person possesses.
What are factors?
These are super traits
A factor is a statistically derived, quantitative dimension of personality that is broader than most traits.
What is the factor model as proposed by Eysenck?
He proposed that the most important human traits are introversion/extraversion and neuroticism/emotional stability.
Later identified self control/psychoticism
Knowing where a person stands on these 2 can predict the characteristics of this person.
What is the big 5? OCEAN
