perception 1 Flashcards
What is the signal detection theory(SDT)?
a basic perceptual task is to determine if a stimulus is present or absent
what is sensitivity refer to in SDT?
ability to discriminate signal from noise
what is bias refer to in SDT?
tendency to provide one answer over the other
to make SDT data make sense you need results with what?
with hit and miss when target present and false alarm and correct rejection when target is absent
only need one from each
what does sensitivity depend on?`
distinctiveness and variability of internal responses(overlapping of distributions)
depends on stimulus, sensory system, attention ect…
what does bias depend on?
how lopsided the evidence must be to say that the target is absent or present
can depend on relative cost of misses versus false alarm
