PEN personality AO1 Flashcards
what does PEN personality argues
that a particular nervous sytem causes a predisposition to criminality that can be passed on through genetics
what does the p stand for
psychotoicism
what is the role of psychotosims / what does it mean
it has been suggested that psychotosism is linked to male hormones such as tesosterone.
what is p’s link to criminal behaviour
criminals may have high levels of tesosterone, increasing aggressive tendancies leading to agressive behaviour
what does the E stand for
extravert
what are the two parts of E
extraverts
intraverts
what does the e suggest/ what does it mean
RAS regulates arousal that inhibits incoming sensations so the individual will seek external stimulation to reeadress the balance and reach their optimum level of arousal
what does this mena if individual is introverted
low levels of arousal tesosterone need stimualtion from enviroment
how does this relate to criminal behaviour
extroverts - criminals may have a higher RAS meaning they seek excitment and stimualtion from the external enviroment causing an increase in aggressive behaviour
what does the N stand for
neurotic
what does this neurotic mean
can become emotional easily
what does this neurotic elemnt mean in terms of reason and criminality
linked to levels of reactivity of ANS. a neurotic has more reactive ANS specifically the sympathetic brain that is responsible for the fight or flight . it is quick to ‘turn on’ and release adrenaline but difficult to ‘turn off’
link neurotic behaviour to criminal behaviour / how are they realted
criminals may have an increase levels in the ANS meaning they mat have a higher release of adrenaline triggering the urge for aggression
