A03 social learning theory Flashcards
what is a supporting point for social learning theory in criminal psych
bandura
banduras 1961 study on observing and imitating same sex aggressive rolemodel. children saw role model behaviour agressively towards a bobo doll saying things such as sock him in the mouth and hitting him with a wooden mallet. the children then later replicated these actions
t/f this shows how indivuduals will observe and imitate agressive acts and so can observe and imitae criminal behaviour
what is anouther strength od slt
supporting research from farrington
farringtan found that 400 families accounted for 50% of crimes.
t/f supporting the idea that children may observe and imitate criminal actions fromfamily members
what is anouther strength of slt
it has positive applications to society. by uderstanding why people may commit criminal offences we can prevent it from happening. for example the introduction of watershed to prevent violence and agression being shown can reduce that about of criminal behaviour children and influental individuals are exposed to. t/f this has pos applications to society as it can help prevent development and further criminal behaviour
what is a weakness of slt
critisie farringtons resaerch - however these crimes could of been commited as a result of other factors such as PEN personality or xyy su=yndrome that can be responsible for criminal behaviour. t/f decreases the validity of farringtons supporting research for slt and shows it as only one potential cause of criminal behaviour
what is anouther weaknes of SLT
critise bandura for population validity
72 pp all 3-6yrs old from america
what is anouther weakness of slt
reductionist only accounts for nurture and not nature factors such as the role of the brain in explaining criminal behaviour
