Q

what does the pelvic floor do

A
  • Made up of levator ani and coccygeus
  • Cover the underneath opening of the pelvis
  • Separates the pelvic cavity and the perineal region
  • Provides support for the pelvic viscera
  • Should always be taught – relax during urination/defecation then
    tighten back up
  • Will contract further during
cough/sneeze etc – to counteract sudden increased intra-abdominal pressure
