lumbar spine arthrology Flashcards
1
Q
What are the ligaments in the lumbar spine
A
- ligamentum flavum
- anterior longitudinal
- posterior longitudinal
- supraspinous
- iliolumbar
2
Q
where/what does the iliolumbar ligament go/do
A
- passing from the tip of
the transverse process
of L5 - posterior part of the
inner lip of the iliac crest
(upper margin of ilium) - Stabilises L5 from
shearing forwards
3
Q
where/what does the anterior longitudinal ligament go/do
A
- It extends from the anterior tubercle of C1 to the pelvic surface of the upper sacrum
- limites hyper-extension
4
Q
where/what does the posterior longitudinal ligament go/do
A
- It extends from the posterior surface of the body of C2 to the posterior surface of S1
- limits flexion + keeps discs in place
5
Q
where/what does the ligamentum flavum go/do
A
- passes between both laminae of adjacent vertebrae from C1 to L5
- limits flexion
6
Q
where/what does the supraspinous ligament go/do
A
it connects the tips of the spines (spinous processes) of C7 to S1
7
Q
what is the central posterior-anterior movement of the lumbar spine
A
push down on spinous process
8
Q
what is the unilateral posterior-anterior movement of the lumbar spine
A
push down on the transverse process
9
Q
what joints are in the lumbar spine
A
zygapophyseal (facet) joints
