pelvis arthrology Flashcards
where/how do you find the sacroiliac joint (SIJ)
between PSIS and sacrum
where/how do you find the pubic symphysis
the joint that joins both the pubic crests together. base of hand on belly button, point down, middle finger on pubic symphysis
iliolumbar ligament
-passing from the tip of
the transverse process
of L5
-posterior part of the
inner lip of the iliac crest
(upper margin of ilium)
-Stabilises L5 from
shearing forwards
sacrotuberous ligament
- ischial tuberosity to PSIS
- stabilises posterior aspect of SIJ + resists anterior pelvic tilt
sacrospinous ligament
-ischial spine to sacrum
- forms the greater sciatic foramen
-prevents twisting of the pelvis
anterior sacroiliac ligament
- sacrum to ilium
- provides stability to anterior aspect
posterior sacroiliac ligament
- posterior aspect of sacrum to posterior aspect of PSIS + iliac crest
- provides stability to the PSIS
what ligaments would you test during compression
sacrotuberous, sacrospinous, posterior sacroiliac
what ligaments would you test during distraction
sacrotuberous, sacrospinous, anterior sacroiliac
