knee arthrology Flashcards
what are the 3 joins in the knee
tibiofemoral, patellofemoral, superior tibiofibular
where is the tibiofemoral joint
between the femoral condyles and the tibial plateau
where is the patellofemoral joint
where the patella sits in the trochlear groove
where is the superior tibiofibular joint
the joint between the head of the fibula and lateral condyle of tibia
where/what does the medial collateral ligament (MCL) go/do
-medial epicondyle of femur to medial tibial condyle
- stabilises medial aspect of joint + prevents valgus stress
where/what does the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) go/do
- lateral femoral epicondyle to fibula head
- stabilises lateral aspect of joint + prevents varus stress
where/what does the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) go/do
- Medially to Anterior
Intercondylar area of
Tibia (Ascends posteriolaterally) to Posteromedial aspect of
Lateral Femoral
Condyle - prevents anterior translation of tibia
where/what does the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) go/do
- Posterior Intercondylar Area (Ascends Anteromedially) to Lateral surface of Medial Femoral Condyle
-prevents posterior translation of tibia
what does the medial + lateral meniscus do
act as a shock absorber + deepens the socket
