Pediatric Supracondylar Fractures Flashcards
What is the most common type of supracondylar fracture ?
Extension type fracture in which the distal fragment is displaced posteriorly. It accounts for 95% of supracondylar fractures.
What is the most common nerve injury in supracondylar fracture with posterior displacement of distal segment?
Anterior interosseous nerve and is treated conservatively.
What nerve is affected in flexion type supracondylar fracture( distal fragment moves ventrorostrally)?
Ulnar nerve
What is the treatment of supracondylar fractures?
Closed reduction and percutaneous pinning.
What is the harmless complication of pediatric supracondylar fractures?
Cubital varus deformity due to malunion.
What is the major complication of supracondylar fracture ?
Volkmann’s contracture due to flexor compartment syndrome secondary to compression of the brachial artery during hyper flexed immobilization of the elbow.
