What is the cause of non-bullous impetigo ?
Streptococcal aureus and GAS-beta hemolytic.
What is the cause of Bullous impetigo?
Exfoliative toxins A and B of Strep. Aureus. It is commonly seen on the skin folds of trunk.
What is ecthyma ?
Infection extends deeper into the
dermis. Ulcerative form with hemorrhagic crust, most common distal extremities Often heals with scarring.
What are the first and second line topical antibiotic choices in impetigo ?
First line: Fusidic Acid 2%
second line: Mupirocin 2% (covers MRSA)
What are the two skin bacterial infections associated with systemic involvement ?
cellultis and erysypilas ( acute onset).
What is the cause of edema in erysipelas ?
involvement of the superficial lymphatics. the most common causes are group A strep and H. influence.
What is the organism in Facial & Periorbital Cellulitis?
Haemophilus influenzae
Cellulitis 2nd Dog & Cat Bites caused by
Pasteurella multocida
Cellulitis in IVDA is caused by ?
S. aureus
Crepitant Cellulitis is caused by
Clostridia species
