PEDIATRIC Section 8: SOLID Organ GI (Polysplenia and Asplenia) Flashcards
Difference between Right sided and LEft sided Heterotaxia
Describe the Aorta/IVC in heterotaxia
The way I keep it straight is by remembering that the IVC is usually on the right. If you are “bilateral left” then you don’t have a regular IVC — hence the azygos continuation. Then I just remember that the other one (flipped IVC/Aorta) is the other one.
Right isomerism shows what?
Left isomerism shows what?
There are 3 vocab words that start with the word “Situs.”
Situs Solitus
Situs Inversus Totalis
Situs Ambiguus
Instead ofjust saying normal, you can be an asshole and say “Situs ___”?
Situs Solitus
TOTAL mirror image transposition of the abdominal and thoracic
stuff
Situs Inversus Totalis
This is a tricky way of saying Heterotaxy. of which you can
have left or right “isomerism.”
Situs Ambiguus (Ambiguous)
RIGHT Gastric Bubble
Larger part of Liver on Left
Minor fissure on Left
Inverted Bronchial Pattern
Associated with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia
What is this?
Absent Minor Fissures
Interrupted IVC
Polysplenia
Biliary Atresia (10 %)
Visceral Heterotaxy with Thoracic Left Isomerism
