What would be the resulting symptoms of compression of the C8 nerve root?
Pain or weakness in the medial two fingers on the ipsilateral side
What is Horner’s syndrome?
A combination of symptoms that arises from a sympathetic trunk lesion on the ipsilateral side
What are the clinical features of Horner’s syndrome?
- unilateral miosis
- partial ptosis
- anhidrosis
- enophthalmos
What is miosis
constricted pupil
what is ptosis
drooping eyelid
what is anhidrosis
loss of sweating
what is enophthalmos
posterior displacement of eyeball within the orbit
What is a pancoast tumour?
Type of lung cancer characterised by a malignant tumour of the superior sulcus (first rib)/apices of the lung with destructive lesions of the thoracic inlet
What symptoms can result from a pancoast tumour?
- Severe shoulder pain radiating towads the axilla and scapula along the ulnar aspect of the hand
- atrophy of the hand and arm muscles
- compression of blood vessels, causing oedema and swelling
- Horner’s syndrome
