Patterns Of Inheretance Flashcards
Define genotype
Genetics constitution of an organism or what alleles it has
Define Phenotype
The expression of genes of an organism (what it looks like)
Define Codominant
Both alleles are equally dominant and expressed in the phenotype
Define sex linkage
A gene whose locus is on the X chromosome
Define autosomal linkage
Genes that are located on the same chromosome (not sex linked)
Define epistasis
When one gene modifies or masks the expression of a different gene at a different locus
What is monohybrid inheritance
Genetic inheritance cross of a characteristic determined by 1 gene
What is dihybrid inheritance
Genetic inheritance cross for a characteristic determined by 2 genes
How is monohybrid inheritance coded for?
Single letters
UPPER CASE FOR DOMINANT lower case for recessive
How are codominant genes coded for?
The gene is a capital letter and the the allele is superscript
How is sex linkage inheritance coded for?
The chromosome X or Y is upper case and them the allele is superscript
How is autosomal linkage and epistasis coded for?
Single letters lower and upper case
