A
- local or disseminated edematous soft tissue abscess
- rapidly progressive cellulitis
- following animal bite
- fowl; pneumonia
- cattle; fever
- rabbits; snuffles to hemorrhagic pneumonia

Epidemiology of pasteurella
A
- almost always spread to humans by animal bites
- spread by fomites

Pathogenesis of pasteurella
A
- antiphagocytic capsule
- pili, adhesion proteins, Fe binding proteins
- adheres to M phages but not engulfed
- growth in vivo as fast as in vitro
- growth and abscess formation is pathogenesis

- pen/amp. or ceph + tetracycline
- most animal bite infections are polymicrobial
