Panting Flashcards
rapid and hasty breathing that in severe cases involve breathing with the mouth open,
raising the shoulders and
inability to lie down
panting
governor of qi
lung
root of qi
kidney
panting with exterior invasion (lung or kidney?)
lung
panting with internal damage with cough and phlegm
lung or kidney
pathological change in the lung
panting with internal damage characterized with more exhalation and less inhalation with
soreness of lumbus
ringing in ears etc
(lung or kidney?)
kidney either yin or yang def
panting and cough that occur together spitting of thin white phlegm sudden onset of disease with: aversion to cold, fever, lack of sweating pulse: floating, tight
Wind cold exterior invasion
Tai yang cold damage
(excess)
panting and cough that occur together rapid breathing nasal flaring loud voice spitting of thick yellow and smelly phlegm or blood streaked pain of the chest and rib side w/ fever, yellow tongue fur, rapid pulse
Heat evil congesting the Lung (qi level)
excess
panting and cough occurring together
coughing that causes chest and rib side pain
inability to lie down
profuse and sticky and slimy white phlegm that is difficult to cough up
fullness and oppression in the chest]heaviness and fatigue of the limbs
tongue: white and slimy
pulse: slippery
phlegm turbidity obstructing the lung
(excess)
severe cases: vomiting or constipation
often w/signs of spleen qi deficiency torpid intake abdominal distension sloppy stools white complexion spirit fatigue lack of strength
hasty panting
complicated by cough
shortness of breath
distention and fulness in the rib-side with or without severe pain
suspended rheum pattern
(excess)
water rheum suspended in the rib side invading the lung causing counter flow ascent of qi
main cause for formation of phlegm
Spleen deficiency; spleen failing to transform and transport body fluids
fluids that are thick and turbid
phlegm
follow the flow of qi, no location and no path
created anywhere
damage of the 5 zang can all cause it
phlegm fluids that are thin and clear
rheum
generally seen in the chest, abdomen and 4 limbs
close relation to SP/ST
collects in the intestines and stomach
panting and cough fullness of the chest shortness of breath inability to inhale while laying down profuse frothy white phlegm floating edema of the face tongue: white and slimy fur pulse: string like and tight
propping rheum pattern
(excess)
this may linger for several years
tendency to contract external invasion wind cold easily
which makes condition worse
can have signs of cold/fever with pain in back and lumbus with possible trembling
enduring panting maybe cough sound of panting is low and forceless thin white phlegm low voice laziness in speaking tendency to contract external invasion easily
tongue: pale with white fur
pulse: empty
Lung qi deficiency pattern
w/ signs of lung qi def. white complexion dizziness spirit fatigue lack of strength spontaneous sweating worse with movement
hasty panting shortness of breath dry cough hoarse voice dry mouth and throat tongue: red with little or not fur pulse: thin rapid
Lung yin deficiency pattern
maybe also: red cheekbones emaciation vexing heat of the 5 hearts tidal fever night sweating
enduring panting
exhalation that is greater than inhalation
soreness and cold of the lumbus and knees
clear long frequent urination
frequent night urination
ringing in the ears or deafness
pulse: deep, thin and forceless in cubit position
Kidney yang deficiency pattern
maybe w/ other signs of yang deficiency internal cold fear of cold cold limbs pale or dark complexion withered essence spirit
enduring panting exhalation that is greater than inhalation sore lumbus and knees dizziness ringing in ears forgetfulness insomnia
tongue: purple with little fur
pulse: fine and rapid
Kidney yin deficiency pattern
maybe w/ tidal fever vexing heat of the 5 hearts red cheekbones dry throat and mouth emaciation
during pregnancy
hasty panting
vexation and irritation and chest oppression and distention or in severe cases pain
signs of water failing to moisten wood or the liver qi confined by the fetal qi rising counter flow to the lungs
hasty panting swelling and pain of the throat and cheeks phlegm-rheum obstruction difficulty in speaking difficulty in swallowing clouding spirit
throat wind
can be life threatening
‘acute throat wind’: entire throat will be swollen difficult to swallow water
‘throat locking wind’: if inside and outside of throat passage is red, swollen, painful and large and the opening is tightly closed
hasty panting
nasal flaring
green- blue lips
white membrane on the throat that gradually enlarges and is not easy to remove which results in bleeding
w/ aversion to cold and a cough that is like a barking of a dog
diphtheria or “white throat”
breath is rapid and hasty
inability to lie down
simultaneous wheezing sounds in the throat
wheezing cough
panting rales
panting cough
not the same as panting and is usually due to phlegm qi obstructing and blocking the airways causing the lung to fail to depurate and downbear
