Pancreas and Liver Flashcards
What is the endocrine part of the pancreas
Secretions from pancreatic islets
Insulin - high BG
Somatostatin - controls insulin and glucagon secretion and stops gastric secretion, blocks CCK
What is the exocrine portion of the pancreas
Acinar cells
Come together to form ducts which form main pancreatic ducts
What do the duct cells in the pancreas produec
Bicarbonate
What do acinar cells secrete
Digestive enzymes stored as zymogen
Converted to active form when CCK released
What increases acinar cells
Vagus
Local ENS
Distenstion
CCK
What does main pancreatic duct join to
Common bile duct and enters duodenum at sphincter of Oddi
What enters the liver and what does it carry
Hepatic portal vein - deoxygenated, nutrient rich blood
Hepatic artery - oxygenated blood
Go to form central vein which goes to IVC
Right and L hepatic duct - any bad stuff from blood removed to here
What is common bile duct formed by
Common hepatic and cystic duct
What is bile made up of
Bile acid - made from cholesterol
Cholesterol
Bicarbonate
Toxic metals + lecithin
What causes yellow bile
Bilirubin extracted from blood
Modified by enzymes = brown faeces
Reabsorbed exerted in urine so yellow urine
Where can bile acid go
Absorbed from ileum and recycled via hepatic portal vein
Stored in gall bladder
What does gall bladder do
Conentrates and stores bile by absorbed sodium
What are the functions of CCK
Contract gall bladder
Relax oddi
Decrease gastric emptying
Increase pancreatic enzyme secretion
What is the function of secretion
Decrease acid secretion
Decrease gastric emptying
Increase HCO3 from duodenum, pancreas and bile duct
