In the abdomen behind the stomach
Where does the pancreatic duct meet the bile duct?
The ampulla of Vater
Where is the pancreatic duct located?
Throughout the pancreas, extending out of the head of the pancreas
Name the 3 parts of the pancreas?
Head, body, & tail
Where are the 3 parts of the pancreas located.
Head is proximal to duodenum, body connects head and tail, tail is adjacent to spleen
What covers the surface of the pancreas?
Nodules (bumpy)
What are the exocrine functions of the pancreas?
Acinar cells produce digestive enzymes e.g. trypsin and chymotrypsin (protein), amylase (CHO), Lipase (fat) - these pancreatic juices mix with bile to digest food in duodenum.
What are the endocrine functions of the pancreas?
Islet cells (Islets of Langerhans) produce insulin & glucagon - blood sugar regulation and homeostasis
