P7 Page 6 Flashcards
Explain type 1 diabetes
Where pancreas stops producing insulin, means blood sugar level rises, it is controlled by injecting insulin into the blood.
Injection has to be the right amount so it doesn’t remove to much sugar.
Explain how insulin control your blood sugar level.
When you eat something sweat your sugar level rises rapidly, the pancreas releases insulin the insulin removes the sugar form the blood and the sugar level falls!
Explain type 2 diabetes.
Develops in later life due to poor diet. Occurs when body can no longer produce or responds to its own insulin. It can be controlled by exercising and eating a carefully controlled diet.
What foods are good to eat if you have type two diabetes?
Foods that are high in fibre and complex carbohydrates because they take longer to digest so the sugar is released into the blood over a longer period of time. This means that the blood sugar level rises more slowly and the body can remove the sugar before it becomes too high.
