B7 Page 5 Flashcards
What measures the external temperature and what measures the internal temperature?
Temperature receptors in the skin detect the external temperature, and receptors in the hypothalamus detect the temperature of the blood.
What does the body have to do keep the core body temperature constant?
The body has to balance the amount of heat energy gained( respiration) and lost.
What does you body do when you are too hot?
Blood vessels close to the skin’s surface get bigger in diameter- Vasodilation- means more blood gets to the surface of the skin meaning more heat is lost.
Sweat glands produce more sweat- when water in sweat evaporates it cools your body.
What does your body to when you are too cold?
1) Vasoconstriction- more blood comes to the surface of the s,in meaning less heat lost.
2) Shiver- increases rate of respiration and warms surrounding tissue.
