B5 Page 1 Flashcards
How do cells make proteins?
By joining amino acids together in an order.
What is each strand of DNA made of?
Lots of small units called nucleotides.
How do ACTG pair up? (The four bases of DNA)
A-T (vice versa)
G-C(vice versa)
What are organelles?
Parts of cells, e.g. Nucleus, chloroplasts.
Where are proteins made?
In the cell cytoplasm by bits of cells (organelles), called ribosomes.
Where is DNA found?
In the cell nucleus.
Why can’t DNA move out of the cell? What must therefore happen to get the information of DNA out the cell?
DNA can’t move out of the cell because its too big. To get the information of DNA out of the cell the ribosome send a messenger RNA or MRNA short. And copies only a single strand.
Where does the RNA molecule join with a ribosome?
In the cytoplasm.
What is the role of a ribosome?
The ribosome sticks amino acids together in a chain to make a protein following the order if basses in the messenger RNA.
