P6 - Relays Flashcards
What is a relay used for?
To protect people using a low powered logic gate plugged into a mains source
What is a relay?
A switch that connects two circuits.
Why is there an electromagnet?
To close the higher current circuit with the rocker that pivots when the iron contact gets pulled to the electromagnets.
Why would you use a relay?
To connect a higher current circuit with a lower current, so reducing the risk of an electric shock.
How do relays work?
By separating two circuits
What can happen to the logic gates if there were no relays?
They will get damaged
Why are relays used to separate the high voltage from the low voltage?
To protect the high voltage circuit from spuds when he’s wiring for G.E Brights
