P5 - Forces and Motion Flashcards
What is velocity?
Velocity is speed with a given direction, e.g. East, 5m/s
How do you work out relative speed?
If a car is overtaking, fast car velocity - slow car velocity. If going opposite direction, add speeds together.
What is a parabola?
A curve - the path of a projectile. This is called the trajectory.
What is the optimum angle for trajectory?
45 degrees
What does ‘u’ stand for?
Initial velocity (speed)
What does ‘v’ stand for?
Final velocity (speed)
What does ‘s’ stand for?
Displacement (distance)
What does ‘t’ stand for?
Time
What does ‘a’ stand for?
Acceleration
What are the steps for choosing the correct motion equation?
- ) Write down three things you know
- ) Write down what you want to find out
- ) Choose an equation that involves all of those parts
- ) Substitute into Q
Does gravity affect horizontal motion?
Nope.
How do we calculate projectile motion?
Calculate horizontal and vertical motion separately.
What’s the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is how fast it is going, but Velocity is the direction and how fast
What does relative speed do?
Compares the speed of two different objects
What are the steps for rearranging an equation?
- )Move equation until one you need to get is on the left
2. ) Do the inverses to both sides to get the term on one side.
