P5 - Waves II Flashcards
How do lenses focus light?
Lenses focus light by causing the light rays to converge onto the focal point on the principal axis.
When does a light wave change speed and what effect does it have on the ray?
When it goes through different densities and this means it changes speed
What is Dispersion?
when different colours of light are refracted by different amounts as they travel at different speeds meaning the different colours of light emerge at different angles = SPECTRUM!!
How do you calculate absolute diffractive index?
refractive index ,n =
speed of light in vacuum(c) /speed of light in the medium(v)
True of False, light continues at the same speed through glass?
False.
what is the total internal reflection
it is the angle in which light travels inside a fibre optic cable an it will still be reflected
How do convex lenses affect light waves?
as the light passes through the lens the rays converge, a convex lens is a converging lens
Do convex lenses create real or virtual images?
Both, it depends on how close the object is.
