P2 - Work, Energy, and Power Flashcards
Name the 9 energy stores.
Thermal, Chemical, Nuclear, Light, Sound, Kinetic, Gravitational potential, Elastic, Electrical.
What is the law of the conservation of energy?
The law for the conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred from one type into another.
What are the four energy pathways?
Mechanical work
Electrical work
Heating
Radiation
What is energy measured in?
Joules (J)
What is the formula for efficiency?
Energy output/Energy input x 100 = Efficiency
OR
Useful energy transferred/Total energy supplied x 100 = efficiency
What is work done?
The quantity (amount) of energy transferred by the force to move an object.
What is the formula for work done?
Work done = Force x Distance
What 2 things influence work done?
Mass and Distance.
What is the formula for gravitational potential energy?
Mass x Gravity x Height
What is the formula for kinetic energy?
1/2 x mass x velocity squared
What is the formula for power?
Power = Energy/Time
OR
Power = Work done/Time
What are the units for power?
Watts.
Which 3 energy resources do not source their energy from the sun?
Geothermal, nuclear, and tidal.
What is a reliable energy source?
One that can produce energy at any time.
What is a non-reliable resource?
Can only produce energy some of the time.
