P2 - Stopping Distances Flashcards
What is the total stopping distance when driving?
From the first spotting to the full stop.
What is the reaction time when driving?
From the first spotting to taking action.
What is the stopping distance when driving?
The thinking distance + the breaking distance.
What is the thinking distance when driving?
The distance travelled during the reaction.
What factors can affect thinking distance when driving? [2]
Speed.
Alertness.
What factors don’t affect the thinking distance when driving? [2]
Bad visibility.
Distraction.
What is the braking distance when driving?
The distance travelled under a braking force.
What factors can affect the braking distance when driving? [4]
Speed.
Brakes.
Tyres.
Grip.
What will happen to the braking distance when driving if it is wet/icy?
It will be larger.
What can happen if there is no tread on the tyres of your car?
Aquaplaning, where you skid on a layer of water.
How does a faster speed affect the breaking force & stopping distance when driving?
The breaking force will be bigger and the stopping distance greater.
