P2 - Frictional Force & Terminal Velocity Flashcards
Which direction will friction act in?
The opposite direction to movement.
What will happen to a moving object if you stop applying a force and why?
It will slow down and stop due to friction.
What is drag?
Friction when an object passes through a liquid.
What effect does a streamlined object have on the drag?
Reduces it.
What effect does a parachute have on the drag?
Increases it.
What will eventually happen to an object falling at a high speed?
It will reach terminal velocity.
What are the stages of an object falling through the air?
1) Gravity is larger than friction.
2) Speed leads to increased friction. Increased friction leads to reduced acceleration.
What effect does speed have on friction?
It increases it.
What does friction depend on?
The shape & area.
