Someone who believes war is always wrong
Many pacifists refuse to fight in a war

The group of people who make a country’s laws
Parliament is made up of people we have elected and people who have been appointed

Allowing/accepting what others do without resisting or an active response
Their passive attitudes makes it easier for the bullies to torment them

Someone who loves/supports their country
The Olympic Champion was a true patriot by playing for his country

To treat someone friendly but also making them look inferior to you
My supervisor is patronising me by making me do his dirty work for him yet continuing to be on my good side

Strange or unusual
That is the most peculiar, unnatural looking bird I have ever seen

To find a way through/into something

Relating to an owner/ownership of someone
You can’t take these books home, it’s proprietary to the school

Someone who carries out a harmful/illegal act
The perpetrator had broken into many homes in the past

Handling/dealing with things sensibly and realistically
Be a little pragmatic and let the guy finish what he’s saying before you open your mouth

Causing anger or another strong emotion purposely - provoke
Her brother had a provocative smirk on his face after annoying her

Inspiring, respectful and admiring by having a high status
The actor won an oscar for his prestigious acting skills in the role
Pivotal (adj)
Something very important in relation to the development/success of something else
The creature plays a pivotal role in their environment

Very powerful and effective - potential
These guys are very potent with guns

Something coming before that leads to something else - beginning

An unfair feeling/dislike about something, especially without enough thought

Someone who is annoying and irritating to deal with

To keep something the way it is without being damaged or destroyed
We need to preserve the environment and stop burning fossil fuels
