Oxygen Flashcards
How can the crew be assured that the oxygen bottle pressure regulating shutoff valve is ON?
By inspecting the cylinder head located behind the FO seat in the cockpit.
What supplies oxygen to the flight crew while wearing the oxygen mask?
The fixed oxygen cylinder.
What is the minimum pressure of the portable oxygen bottle allowed for dispatch?
1200 psi (30 minutes of O2)
What will occur if the passenger oxygen selector knob is set to MANUAL?
As long as the aircraft is powered, the oxygen masks will deploy immediately, regardless of cabin altitude.
What is the purpose of the green discharge indicator on the fuselage, adjacent to the oxygen service panel?
The green discharge indicator provides evidence of over-servicing of the oxygen cylinder if it is missing/blown out. Too much pressure.
Where can crews look to determine whether sufficient oxygen is onboard for 2 or 3 crewmembers on the flightdeck?
Flightdeck Reference Guide: Minimum Flight Crew Oxygen Pressure table or on EFB>Company Manuals> EMB135-145. There is also a table located on the inside cover of the crew oxygen service panel.
Describe the amplified procedure for Oxygen during the Before Start Check?
a Receiving Checklist was accomplished:
Verify sufficient oxygen is onboard. The following procedures are applicable for both EROS and Puritan oxygen masks.
Perform a Crew Oxygen Test:
• Select the boom/mask pushbutton on the audio panel to MASK (out)
• Select the overhead speaker on the audio panel to OFF (S.T. in)
• Turn the audio panel speaker volume to a mid-range
• Ensure the yoke PTT switch is set to the HOT position
• Press the test button on the oxygen mask unit.
– The sound of oxygen flow should be heard momentarily over the speaker, verifying the integrity of the mask microphone
system.
– The yellow blinker on the mask stowage box should be visible during the test.
• Return the audio controls to their normal positions.
Check the Oxygen Bottle:
• Ensure the pressure regulating shutoff valve on the crew oxygen bottle behind the First Officer’s seat is set to ON.
Check the Passenger Oxygen system:
• Ensure that the passenger oxygen knob is set to AUTO.
If a Receiving Checklist was not performed:
• Ensure the mask regulator is set to 100%
• Press the test button on the oxygen mask unit. The sound of oxygen flow should be heard momentarily.
• Verify sufficient oxygen is onboard.
If an Additional Crew Member (ACM) is occupying the flightdeck jumpseat:
These procedures are applicable for both EROS and Puritan oxygen masks.
Perform the following ACM Oxygen Test:
• Select the boom/mask pushbutton on the ACM and Captain (or First Officer) audio panels to MASK (out)
• Turn the respective audio panel speaker volume to a mid-range
• Ensure the ACM PTT switch is set to the HOT position
• On the ACM mask, rotate the selector knob to the EMERGENCY position
– The sound of oxygen flow should be heard momentarily over the speaker, verifying the integrity of the mask microphone
system.
• Return the audio controls to their normal positions.
What does the Passenger Oxygen knob do when in CLOSED, AUTO, and MANUAL?
CLOSED - Disables the automatic deployment of the masks.
AUTO - Deploys masks automatically as cabin altitude rises above 14,000 feet (14,500 feet +/- 500 for XR aircraft).
MANUAL - Will override the auto logic and deploy the passenger masks.
Do passengers have to do anything to get oxygen when the mask’s drop?
Yes. When the masks drop, passengers need to pull down on the mask.
This will release a lanyard pin that will allow two chemicals to mix, producing O2 and heat.
How long can the PBE be used for oxygen?
15 minutes.
