Lighting Flashcards
Will the cockpit dome light be operable in a depowered airplane; why?
Yes as long as a GPU is connected since the flightdeck dome lights are powered by the Ground Service Bus.
What is the power source for the Taxi lights?
The Taxi lights are powered by the Shed Buses.
When will the Taxi lights and nose landing light automatically turn off?
The Taxi lights and nose landing light will automatically turn off when the nose gear is retracted.
When should the Sterile light be on?
From the Engine Start Check to 10000 ft. And from 10000 ft. to Parking.
Describe the selections of the Courtesy Lights (AUTO and ON)?
Courtesy Lights AUTO: Lights on with MCD open.
Courtesy Lights ON: Lights on when MCD is open. When MCD is closed, only the light above the MCD remains on.
Describe the selection of the Emergency Lights (ARM and ON)?
Emergency Lights ARM: emergency lights are off and their batteries receive a charge. The lights will automatically illuminate during a loss of normal DC power.
Emergency Light ON: the emergency lights illuminate with power supplied by the dedicated batteries.
How long do the Emergency Lights last when in use?
The batteries will provide the Emergency Lights with power for about 15 minutes.
How do the Emergency Lights differ in the XR?
Aisle path lighting is photoluminescent. The Crew is responsible for recharging (1st flight):
– 10 minutes of cabin lighting
– Overhead bins closed
– Cabin lights bright or dim
– Aisle traffic limited to crewmembers and other essential personnel
What does the EICAS caution message EMERG LT NOT ARMD mean?
The emergency lighting system is not armed (e.g., on or off).
What is the status (on/off) of the Emergency Lights if the flightdeck emergency light switch is in the OFF position but the Flight Attendant panel switch is ON?
The Emergency Lights will be ON. The FA may override the cockpit switch and turn on the emergency lights anytime.
Describe the amplified procedure for selecting exterior lights prior to departure?
When taking the active runway, the Captain will select the STROBE, INSP, and TAXI ON.
Once takeoff clearance is received, the Captain will select the LDG 1, NOSE, and LDG 2 ON.
What light should be on prior to taking the active runway (line up and wait)?
STROBE, INSP, and TAXI ON
Can the emergency light batteries be charged while they are in use?
No, the batteries are only charged when the emergency light switch is in the ARM position and the lights are not in use.
With the emergency lights in the ARM position, why would an EMG LT NOT ARMD message be presented on the EICAS?
This likely indicates that the FA has activated the emergency lights from the forward attendant control panel.
Why should the Courtesy Light switch be placed OFF prior to leaving the aircraft?
The courtesy lights are powered by Hot Bus 2. Should the Main Door stay open with the courtesy light switch ON or AUTO, BATT 2 will drain.
