- Protein synthesis inhibitor
2. binds to 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit inhibiting protein synthesis

- S. aureus (MRSA, MSSA)
- Enterococcus including VRE
- Coagulase negative staph
- Streptococci

Clinical activity poor

What are the clinical indications for Linezoid (Zyvox)?
A
- Gram positive infections: usually as alternative therapy to vancomycin
- VRE
- Avoid for MRSA bacteremia, endocarditis

What are the SE for linezoid (Zyvox)?
A
- Allergies
- Agranulocytosis
- Reversible myelosuppression after 2 wks therapy
- Rare peripheral neuropathy: with long term therapy
- Optic neuropathy
- Lactic acidosis
- Black hairy tongue
