Histo of serous cystadenoma:
Lined with tube-like epithelium; often BL
Appearance of mucinous cystadenoma:
multiloculated, large, lined by mucus secreting epithelium
Endometrioma:
endometriosis within ovary with cyst formation
Sx of and endometrioma:
pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, sx vary with menstrual cycle
Appearance of endometrioma:
chocolate cyst
endometrioma filled with dark, reddish brown blood
seen as a complex mass on ultrasound
What do endometriomas do during menses:
get larger d/t cyclic bleeding
Mature cystic teratoma: benign or malignant?
benign
Most common ovarian tumor in females 10-30 y/o
mature cystic teratoma
Elements of a mature cystic teratoma:
elements from all 3 germ layers (teeth, hair, sebum)
Teratome with functional thyroid tissue:
struma ovarii
AE of a mature cystic teratoma:
can present with pain d/t enlargement or torsion
Histo of fibroma:
bundles of spindle shaped fibroblasts
Meig’s syndrome:
triad of ovarian fibroma, ascites, and hydrothorax (pleural effusion)
Thecoma
produces estrogen–presents as abnormal uterine bleeding in post menopausal females
Brenner tumor histo
resembles bladder epithelium (transitional cell tumor); coffee bean nuclei
Gross appearance of brenner tumor:
solid, pale, tan-yellow tumor
Most common malignant ovarian neoplasm:
serous cystadenocarcinoma
Special characteristic seen in serou cystadenocarcinoma:
psamomma bodies
Rare, malignant mucinous ovarian epithelial tumor:
mucinous cystadenocarcinoma
What is pseudomyxoma peritonei? And what is it associated with?
intraperitoneal accumulation of mucinous material
