Procedure for carrying out controlled evacuation?

A
  • Get permission from Duty Control Manager and signal protection from Signaller
  • Formulate a plan with the driver and make an announcement for a competent person to come forward
  • Make announcements to passengers to give evacuation instructions
  • Use one door only and place ladder from it on the safest side
  • Position 2 competent people at the bottom of the ladder to assist and stabilise
  • Position 1 Competent person at the top of the ladder to help people onto it
  • Position 1 competent person in a position of Safety to direct people off the lines

Procedure for a train to train evacuation?

A
  • Get permission off the DCM and wait for them to brief staff members involved
  • Position 2 members of staff on the ground to hold the ramp in place
  • Position 1 member if staff at each door of the trains involved
  • Assess the feasibility of the evacuation (angle, distance between trains etc)
  • Test the ramp yourself thoroughly before letting passengers across; one at a time on foot
  • anyone that cannot cross themselves (eg wheelchair uses) must remain on demic train
