OTPF 4 and Development of Childhood Occupation Flashcards
It is the process of obtaining and interpreting Data
Evaluation
It involves gathering of information for the purpose of determining whether further evaluation is needed
Screening
It is the use of “specific tools” such as standardized and non-standardized tests
Assessment
Test that have specific procedure for administration and scoring
Standardized Test
Considered as an informal assessment that therapists conduct to determine the strength and abilities of a child. (via observation)
Non-standardized test
Type of assessment that compares the score of the child to other children of the same group
Criterion-based assessment
Assessment that compares the result to the typical development stages (e.g. milestones)
Norm-based assessment
What are the (3) OT Processes
Evaluation
Intervention
Outcomes
What are the (4) OT Domains
Occupation
Client Factors
Performance patterns
Context
- it describes the occupational history, patterns of daily living, interest, values and needs of the client
- determines the occupational areas of the area of concern.
Occupational Profile
Type of approach used in obtaining Occ. Profile
Top-down Approach
Used to identify the ability of client to effectively perform and complete a desired occupation
- process where assessment tools are used
- gathering and synthesis of evaluation data from multiple sources
Analysis of Occupational Performance
Developmental theory that emphasizes that growth always progress in a pattern through predictable stages or sequences
- Social interaction and experience does not affect the development of the child
Gesell Maturational-Dev’t Theory
- dev’t theory that says the environment affects the development of the child
- believes that learning is hierarchical
Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive dev’t
What are the four levels of cognitive development
sensorimotor
preoperational
concrete
Formal
- Birth to 2 years
- understands the world via action and senses; indication how child learns and adapt
- obtains OBJECT PERMANENCE
Sensorimotor
- 2 to 7 years
- understands the world via language and mental images
- thinks symbolically to represent object
- PRETEND PLAY
Preoperational
- 7 to 12 years
- understands the world via logical thinking and categories
- understands the law of conservation (e.g. clay flat and round)
Concrete Operational
12 years onwards
- understands hypothetical thinking and scientific reasoning
- knows how to problem solve and rationalize
Formal Operational
it is the understanding that objects continue to exist even though they are not seen, heard or sensed
Object Permanence
It is the understanding that something stays the same in quantity even though the appearance changes
- redistribution does not affect its mass, number, volume or length
Conservation
Theory that views the human development as historically situated and culturally determined
- learning is dependent to “social interaction”
- a child’s cognitive processing requires assistance from an adult
Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development
