Other Flashcards
What are simple carbs?
Sugars
Simple sugars = found in fruit and veg
Refined sugars = found in cakes, chocolate etc
What do fats do?
Provide energy but very easy for our body to store it if not used by our bodies
What should you eat for short high intensity anaerobic activity?
Carbs
What should you eat for longer activities with aerobic and anaerobic?
Carbs and fats
What should you eat for long duration but low intensity aerobic activity?
Fats
What are the short term effects of exercise on your muscles?
Muscle fatigue
Cramp
Lactic acid accumulation
What are the short term effects of exercise on the heart?
Increased stroke volume
Increased cardiac output
What is a lever?
A rigid structure like a bone that moves around an axis
What is the fulcrum?
The joint (triangle at the bottom)
What is the load?
What you want to move (square at the top)
What is the effort?
What is supplied to the muscles (arrow)
What is a first class lever?
EFFORT FULCRUM LOAD
What is a second class lever?
FULCRUM LOAD EFFORT
What is a third class lever?
FULCRUM EFFORT LOAD
What is mechanical advantage?
When the output of a lever is greater than the input - when the load is greater than the effort so you are getting more than you are putting in
What is mechanical disadvantage?
When the effort and load are both on the same side of the fulcrum - the input is greater than the output
What are the advantages of first class levers?
Stable
Strong
Increasing length increases mechanical advantage
What are the disadvantages of first class levers?
Slow
Limited flexibility
What are the advantages of second class levers?
Stable
Strong
Increasing the length increases mechanical advantage
What are the disadvantages of second class levers?
Slow
Limited flexibility
What are the advantages of third class levers?
Fast movement
Large range of motion
Increasing the length decreases mechanical advantage
What are the disadvantages of third class levers?
The force applied (effort) must always exceed the load
What is the sagittal plane?
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically into left and right sides
What is the frontal plane?
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically from front to back
